"Out beyond ideas of wrong-doing and right-doing, there is a field. I'll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass, the world is too full to talk about. Ideas, language, even the phrase 'each other' doesn't make any sense." -Rumi

I get a "connection refused" message when I try to access the article.
Maybe it is just me...
It works now. Must have been one of those transient, internet things.
OK, now that I've read it...
Huntington is a nut.
He has obviously not much time around Mexican-Americans or Mexican nationals. I grew up as a minority in a mostly Mexican-American community. Huntington is basing his opinions on a bigoted, false stereotype of Mexicans. In point of fact, Mexican-Americans are proud to be Americans, are as hard-working as anyone else, are dedicated to education, and have strong family ties.
The view of America as being anglo-protestant is not based on fact, but a twisted sense of history which overlooks the contributions of other races and creeds to US culture and wealth. Among the contributions of anglo-protestants is the nation's ability to dehumanize various groups of people at key times in history. This has led to the near genocide of the Native American Indians, ignoring the plight of Tibetans, and now the apparent war on Arab Muslims.
I say, let's get on with the melding of cultures. The mix will be more than the sum of its parts, assuming we can get past the dehumanizing of people like Huntington.
Samuel Huntington is an American political scientist who has found the optimal formula to sell books: Predict disaster. Works wonders for selling books on buying gold, or religion, or...
His eschatological world-view is rampant in his thinking...the man should be an ancient Hebrew prophet predicting doom and gloom, or a modern evangelical
minister whose dire predictions of the imminent end of humanity is to spur us to sudden moral rectitude.
His books are required reading in the United States universities (he's president of the American Political Science Ass'n), so his influence is far-flung and assured...so long as you like your political theory half-racist, half-Nostradamus.
Quail of Peace,
If you want to find a more accurate, and certainly more moderate American world-view than that of Samuel Huntington, visit the website for the Philosophy of Human Rights at: www.philohr.org
Huntington's thinking is but a small step from right-wing extremism, and I thought Saudi Arabia has had its fill with right-wing extremists.
